Upon an initiative of AzerGold CJSC’s subsidiary company Dashkasan Iron Ore LLC and with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the environmental action was held around Guney-Zaghali water basin located in Dashkasan region.

Guney-Zaghali water basin is situated at 8 kilometers to the south of Dashkasan city, between Khoshbulag and Zaghali villages on Goshgarchay valley. The basin fed by Goshgarchay and Hamamchay rivers was designed in 1959 and constructed in 1969. The water basin was built with the aim to meet technical water demand for wet processing at Refinery Plant of Azerbaijan Mining and Ore Processing Combine. 3 million cubic meter of water was delivered from the water basin to produce 1 million ton of concentrate in the above-mentioned period with the view to increase the total water volume and protect the water reserves in the basin, which is currently under property of Dashkasan Iron Ore LLC. Thus, for more effective use of available water reserves, the degraded infrastructure of Guney-Zaghali water basin is under reconstruction.

It is worth noting that, within the framework of the event devoted to 18 September, International Coastal Clean-up Day and attended by the representatives of AzerGold CJSC and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the land surrounding the water basin was cleaned from various kinds of household wastes. The rubbish collected from the area was sorted out and directed to recycling. Besides, the boards with inspirational quotes about the protection of environment were installed on the site.

The event was mainly aimed to promote the cleanliness at water basins, prevent littering on the coastal areas and contributing the protection of nature.

Within the framework of the event, baby brook trouts were released into the water basin to stimulate natural population of fish species. The ecological action was attended by The Minister of the Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, Chairman of the Executive Board of AzerGold CJSC Zakir Ibrahimov, General Director of Dashkasan Iron Ore LLC Ogtay Mammadov.
