IE University Held Training on Sustainable Development at AzerGold CJSC

In line with AzerGold CJSC’s Action Plan for Sustainable Development, the internationally renowned IE University (Universidad Instituto de Empresa) of Spain held a training in ‘Global Energy System, Climate Change, and Energy Transition’ for the Company employees.

The training, led by a professor at the university ranked globally among the top higher education institutions and an international expert in energy transition and sustainable development, Dr. Ana Diaz Vasquez, aimed to raise awareness about major transformations in the global energy system and the latest innovations in the energy transition.

At the beginning of the training, attention was drawn to Azerbaijan’s role, position, and contributions in combating climate change, especially in the context of the country's high-level hosting of the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in 2024.

The professor then discussed key transformations in the global energy system and recent innovations in the energy transition, providing information on the structure of the global energy system, conventional and renewable energy sources, and the energy generation, transmission, and consumption chain. Dr. Vasquez also presented rankings of regions and countries on carbon dioxide emissions in various years and spoke about the efforts and practices of different states in reducing their carbon footprint against the background of economic growth. Touching on Azerbaijan’s goal of expanding the share of renewable energy in electricity generation to 30% by 2030, the professor stressed that efforts to increase investment in renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind power, will have a positive impact on combating climate change.
