AzerGold Closed Joint Stock Company held commemoration event dedicated to 32nd anniversary of 20 January tragedy.
The participants observed a minute silence in commemoration of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Delivering a speech at the event, Zakir Ibrahimov, the Chairman of the Executive Board, noted that the bloodshed committed 32 years ago in Baku was one the worst crimes against the humanity. He mentioned that January 20 was not only the national tragedy, but also the nationwide movement of Azerbaijani people for the liberty.
Speaking about the traces left in the history of modern Azerbaijan by the events of January 20, the Chairman reminded that the national leader Heydar Aliyev was the first to raise his voice in protest of this illegal act of the Soviet government. Great leader Heydar Aliyev, who came to the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan in Moscow on January 21, 1990, despite the prohibitions of the Soviet regime, risking his and his family’s lives, strongly criticized the organizers of the bloody tragedy and protested against this injustice. After the national leader returned to power in 1993, the bloody January fully received its political and legal assessment.
Zakir Ibrahimov noted that the Alley of Martyrs, where martyrs of this bloody tragedy are buried, has become a sacred place for our people. The fact that President Ilham Aliyev, Supreme Commander-in-Chief, delivered the good news about the liberation of Shusha to our people from the Alley of Martyrs, which played a very important and decisive role in the victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, once again proved the moral value of this sacred place.
The event was also attended by camera operators, Honored Artists Rafig Guliyev and Nizami Abbas, who filmed the events of January 1990 in Azerbaijan and recorded this difficult and turbulent page of our history in the motion picture. They brought the moments they witnessed during the bloody events to the attention of the participants.
At the end of the event, fragments from the documentary "Roads to Liberty" made by the "Salnama" creative association in 1990 were demonstrated, and the role of January 20 events in the struggle for freedom of Azerbaijan was discussed.
Notably, the victims of January 20 were commemorated at Dashkasan Iron Ore LLC, a subsidiary of AzerGold CJSC, and speeches were made on the symbolic and phenomenal role of this tragedy in the struggle for Azerbaijan's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
