Supporting the Development of Potato Farming in Dashkasan region Project included training for farmers

A theoretical training was organized for potato farmers within the framework of Supporting the Development of Potato Farming in Dashkasan region Project by the initiative and organization of AzerGold Closed Joint-Stock Company and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Hikmat Nasirov, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of the Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Growing, led the training organized at Dashkasan State Agrarian Development Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture. He gave a presentation on the topic of “Cultivation technology for high-yield potatoes” and presented detailed information to the farmers about the place of potatoes in crop rotation, pre-planting soil cultivation, fertilization system, planting material and its preparation, planting, plant caring, harvesting and storage conditions of potatoes.

The training, aimed at developing the knowledge and skills of farmers, was continued in a question-and-answer format.

The main objective of the Project, implemented since the beginning of the current year, is to contribute to the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in mining areas of AzerGold CJSC, promotion of potato farming, which is one of the traditional agricultural fields of Dashkasan region, and increase of potato growing by dry farming. The registered farmers of Gushchu and Zaylik villages in the Electronic Agricultural Information System of the Ministry of Agriculture, and who possess at least 1 hectare of arable land, were involved in the project.

The project includes theoretical and practical trainings to improve the knowledge and skills of the project participants, as well as to meet the basic needs for seeds, services and goods to achieve high productivity in arable lands of 10 hectares. At the end of the planting season, 85 per cent of the harvest is to be donated to farmers, and 15 per cent is to be used for charity by AzerGold CJSC.

The social measures by AzerGold, based on the state policy, serve the development of the region, increasing the employment rate of the population, and improving their well-being. The residents of the villages, located near the production areas of AzerGold, benefit from the projects on environmental protection, education, health, employment, entrepreneurship promotion, etc.
