Another environmental project on rare plants in Chovdar gold mine

AzerGold Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) organized another environmental campaign within the project of propagation of rare and endangered plant species in Dashkasan region, which are included in the Red Book, and reintroduction of these species to their historical areas.
Ogtay Mammadov, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of AzerGold, experts of the Botany Institute of the Ministry of Science and Education and company employees participated in the campaign in the territory of the Chovdar gold mine.
Rare plant species such as Rosa zangezura Jarosch., Rosa nisami Sosn., Rosa pulverulenta M. Bieb., Malus orientalis Mill., Fagus orientalis L., Carpinus betulus L., Acer trautvetteri L., Fraxinus excelsior L., Pyrus caucasica L., Pyrus salicifolia Pall., Euonymus grandiflorus Wall., Frangula grandiflora A.Pool., Jasminum fruticans L., Inula grandiflora, Centaurea pseudocabiosa Boiss. were planted in huge numbers.
For your information, the project of propagation and reintroduction of rare and endangered plant species by AzerGold CJSC was first organized in 2021-2022. Within the project, from November to December, endangered plants were discovered in the mountains around the Chovdar mine and their seeds were collected, together with the employees of the Institute of Botany and the Central Botanical Garden. Within a year, those seeds were sorted out, dried with appropriate chemicals, and grown under special agrotechnical conditions. In November of 2022, Rosa zangezura Jarosch., Rosa nisami Sosn., Rosa pulverulenta M.Bieb. and Frangula grandiflora A.Pool. were detected and propagated at their historical areas within the first project. The reintroduction of different types of plant species in Dashkasan region was provided within the project this year.
It should be noted that, AzerGold CJSC, as a state company representing the mining industry of Azerbaijan, takes necessary measures for effective management of the exploited deposits and minimizing the impact of production process on environment.
In addition, other events are organized for preserving the ecological balance, based on the social impact and responsibility policy of AzerGold, including clean-up events, tree planting and other greening campaigns. Following these projects, more than 14.000 trees and shrubs have been planted in the Chovdar mine area and its vicinities until today.
